Students learn career skills at the Educate Awards

Students from specialist schools in Merseyside were chosen to help out at the Educate Awards 2022, supplying them with future career skills.

Wargrave House School and College is a non-maintained special school and independent specialist college for young people aged 5-25.

Abbot’s Lea school is a maintained special school for students

aged 3-19.

The Educate Awards team invited students from both schools to aid in the preparations for the annual awards ceremony, which welcomes hundreds of guests attend each year.

The students helping out arrived at Liverpool Cathedral bright and early. Their tasks ranged from managing the cloakroom to getting the tables prepared for the evening, which guests would be occupying later on for the event.

Students were given certain responsibilities to manage and were encouraged to try different tasks, under supervision from the event management team from CPMM Media Group and staff members from their school.

Ultimately, this equipped students with new skills for future working life.

Alicia, a student from Wargrave House, said: “I just want to say how I am glad that I had the chance to work at the Educate Awards. I had fun working there as I thought it was a good experience being out in the community and helping out in a nice event.”

Yanick, another student from Wargrave House also worked at the event. He said: “I really enjoyed going out to work in Liverpool Cathedral for the second time, it was the greatest experience.”
