How Progress Careers is changing the way schools think about the delivery of careers advice and guidance

Progress Careers has recently began working with Selby High School in North Yorkshire to deliver a full careers service.

The contract uses a five-framework approach, with Progress Careers supporting Selby High to fulfil its responsibility to provide students with high-quality, external, and impartial Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG).

As part of its service, Progress Careers delivers career-related activities to

Selby’s students including individualised guidance, careers fairs and workshops.

Its 360-degree approach offers a comprehensive careers education programme as well as working towards meeting the Gatsby benchmarks, specifically benchmark 8.

With 90% of its career’s advisers qualified to Level 6, Progress Careers guarantees a passionate and experienced adviser dedicated to each school where they work, with Selby being no exception.

As an independent career’s advice and guidance provider, Progress Careers takes great pride in re-setting the expectations and perceptions of careers guidance in schools. The team immerse themselves in the culture and needs of each school where they operate in order to offer a truly bespoke service.

It has also recently launched iProgress, a careers app which is designed to help schools track and easily report on their careers programme, while also giving their students access to LMI data to help them with their future career planning.

Delivering CEIAG at Selby High School for Progress Careers is Rachel Costoya. She said: “Launching our careers service in Selby High School has been both exciting and challenging. From day one, it was about meeting staff, understanding the vision and aims of the school, and learning the school layout.

“Since September, we have delivered career-related activities, including assemblies and presentations alongside one-to-one guidance. We are working on the annual careers fair, post-16 employability workshops, and mock group interviews.”
