Key milestone for Abbot’s Lea

School is celebrating 70 years of public service

Abbot’s Lea School in Woolton, Liverpool, is preparing for an array of celebrations as it commemorates its 70th year of service to the children and young people in the city.

To mark this incredible milestone, the school is searching for past staff, students and their families who would be keen to talk to current students about their time at the school.

The site on which the school is situated has a rich history. It was first gifted to the community by a soap maker in the early 1900s.

Then it was used as a hospital school in World War II.

Fast forward to 2022, Abbot’s Lea School now prides itself on delivering an innovative approach to education, placing equal focus on: academic progress, specialist therapeutic support and development of life skills to its students age 3-19 with autism and a range of associated communication, interaction, social, imagination, sensory and learning differences.

Inspired by the Queen’s platinum jubilee, the school is planning its own series of events and activities for students, staff and families to enjoy. A summer fair will take place on Saturday 2 July 2022, concluding the celebrations.

Headteacher Mrs Ania Hildrey is inviting staff and students who worked or attended the school to return once again.

She said: “This is a really exciting year for our school, and it would be wonderful to track back alumni from decades ago to come and talk to our students about what Abbot’s Lea was like in their school days and to find out what the school is doing now.

This will be really insightful for our students and staff alike, as we learn about the school’s wonderful history and how Abbot’s Lea School has played, and continues to play, an important role in the local community and the city region as a whole.

“We are currently in the planning stages for our celebrations, with our head boy, head girl and their deputies fully involved in the leadership and management of all the preparations.”

Any past students, staff or families of Abbot’s Lea School who would like to be part of the 70th celebrations should contact the headteacher via email: reception@abbotsleaschool. co.uk or call 0151 428 1161.
