First for Wallasey schools

The ADHD Foundation has announced that Liscard Primary School, Mount Primary and Greenleas Primary School from Wallasey are now officially Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Friendly Schools.

The award is given to schools that have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to all of their children with ADHD and which have established an array of support structures and strategies to ensure that the children with ADHD can access the curriculum fully and are happy and achieving at school.

Each school supports children with their emotional development and to feel safe, respected and excited about their learning. Each school has demonstrated that they have considered the different needs of children with ADHD and this was evident in the way in which classrooms and activities in lessons are set up to supporting mental health and well being and providing opportunities all day, including at lunchtime.

From sensory tents, task timers, lunchtime coaching, active maths and ‘Wake up Shake up’ at the start of the school day, to sensory resources and attentional tools and furniture in every classroom, these three schools offer a calm and accessible environment in which children with ADHD can learn and develop,

All children learn about and celebrate neurodiversity, through structured lessons to participation in initiatives such as the ADHD Foundation’s Umbrella project.

Dr Tony Lloyd, CEO of the ADHD Foundation said: “It is a privilege to work with the first school group to achieve the award. The three schools have gone above and beyond to make their lessons and their school environment enjoyable, supportive and safe spaces for their children with ADHD and I’m glad that they are getting the recognition for this that they deserve.”

Rachel Squirrel, Consortia lead for the Wallasey Alliance, said: “We are proud to be the first school alliance to work together to gain the prestigious ADHD friendly schools award. We are committed to supporting our ADHD learners and we know from the training staff have received and the work we have completed with the ADHD Foundation that we have improved the provision and outcomes for our ADHD learners across all our schools.”
