King’s Leadership Academy Wavertree is set to open in September 2024

Plans for the opening of King’s Leadership Academy Wavertree in September 2024 are well-advanced. King’s Leadership Academy Wavertree is a non-selective free independent school in the state sector that will provide a world-class education for young people. King’s Leadership Academy Wavertree will be founded on international research and traditional values, focusing on leadership and academic development. The new school will initially offer 180 Year 7 places with parents having until 31 October 2023 to apply for their child to be part of the first cohort. King’s Leadership Academy Wavertree will be the fifth of the Great Schools Trust’s academies, joining those already established in Dingle, Bootle, Warrington and Bolton. Mr Ben Barker has been appointed principal designate. He brings experience of his last role as the founding head of a new academy school in Manchester to Wavertree. He also has vast knowledge of the Great Schools Trust, having spent seven years at the King’s Leadership Academy, Warrington, eventually becoming vice principal and head of the science department. Mr Barker said: “It’s a great honour and privilege to have been selected as King’s Leadership Academy Wavertree Principal Designate. “We will have a broad and well-balanced curriculum with every student having the opportunity to thrive academically, socially and personally to become highachieving, aspirational, skilled and confident.” Mr Barker believes a nurturing and inclusive environment within the school is important: “Among the things we will be doing is having a mentoring programme to provide support and also having a “family dining time” where the year group, including tutors, will sit down together at lunchtime to help build strong and meaningful relationships. King’s Leadership Academy Wavertree is accepting applications from current Year 6 children.
