Students learn about university life

This term saw Belvedere Academy’s first residential trip in over two years, and where better to take its students than the beautiful city of Cambridge.

14 of its Year 12 students, all studying STEM subjects and interested in taking them further to university, had the opportunity to visit Cambridge University and explore life at one of the world’s best institutions for education.

They visited Trinity College, founded by Henry VIII, where they received a session on how to make their Cambridge applications stand out, including personal statement advice, as well as entrance exam and interview techniques.

They also had a Q&A with current STEM undergrads on their experiences and their subjects. They even got to experience lunch in the Great Hall and a tour of the very beautiful grounds.

The next day, students began the day with a famous Cambridge tradition, punting along the River Cam. After a fantastic experience seeing Cambridge from the river, the students visited St John’s College for another tour by Mathematics PhD student Maria, where they even got to meet the Master of the College who encouraged students to apply, telling them “We love smart women”.

That afternoon students got to explore the city, some visiting the local museum, some wandering the beautiful streets of Cambridge, visiting book shops and buying souvenirs, and most importantly some Jack’s Gelato to help with the warm weather.

To end the trip students visited King’s College, home to the famous King’s College Chapel with the largest fan vaulted ceiling in the world. Students had such a fantastic time in Cambridge, with memories to last a lifetime!
